You’re Not Behind—You’re Just in a Different Season

entrepreneurship marketing Jun 02, 2025
If you've ever looked at another woman’s business, her life, her Instagram feed, and thought, “Why can’t I keep up?”—this episode is for you.

Not long ago, I was at an incredible event hosted by Courtney Hobbs called The Mother Telling. Courtney is a storytelling coach (and a member of my Ambition Mastermind!) who empowers moms to own and share their stories on stage. It was an emotional, inspiring day.

At the event, I reconnected with a woman I’ve known online for a while. She had just delivered the most beautiful, heartfelt talk, and when I approached her to say how amazing she was, she said something that really stuck with me:

“I watch everything you’re doing, and I just can’t keep up. I want to—but I can’t.”

And I said to her, with full love and truth:

“We’re in different seasons.”

That simple sentence became the spark for this week’s podcast episode.

Seasons Aren’t a Setback—They’re the Blueprint

I’m currently in what I call Chapter Two of motherhood. My kids are in school, I have space during the day to work, travel, create, and show up more fully in my business. But it wasn’t always like this. Chapter One—those baby and toddler years—were marked by nap schedules, diapers, restrictions, and exhaustion. I couldn’t even leave the house without a production plan.

But now? We’re skiing as a family. We can eat at (some) restaurants without meltdowns (as long as there’s bacon, we’re good). I offer VIP days. I attend events. I travel to see clients. These are things I simply could not have done a few years ago.

And yet—so many women are comparing their Chapter One to someone else’s Chapter Two or Three. And it’s crushing their confidence.

Stop Comparing Your Growth in a High-Demand Season

To Someone in Their High-Capacity One

I want to say this gently but clearly: if you’re in the newborn trenches, or you’re homeschooling, or you’ve got a toddler glued to your hip, of course you’re not in your “scale-to-the-moon” era. And that’s not only okay—it’s exactly as it should be.

You’re not behind. You’re building a human.

Build a Business That Works With Your Season, Not Against It

Here’s what I know: your business can (and should) evolve as your life does. That doesn’t make you flaky or unfocused. That makes you a human being with responsibilities, dreams, and a deeply personal journey.

So if you're wondering how to honor the season you're in while still staying connected to your ambition, here are a few tangible mindset and strategy shifts I shared on the show:

1. Define What Success Looks Like Now

What felt successful last year might not be relevant today. Maybe this season’s success is:
  • Taking on one aligned client
  • Maintaining your current income
  • Simply not quitting

Stop recycling goals from old seasons.

2. Plan Around Your Energy, Not the Clock

Stop trying to create a 40-hour workweek from 10 available hours. Identify your high-energy windows (even if it’s 20 minutes!) and go all in during those. Let go of the idea that productivity means long hours.

3. Say No with Confidence

If something no longer fits this version of you, release it. Let your “yes” go to delegation, automation, or even pressing pause when needed. That dream offer or launch? It might just be a “not yet.”

Your Business Doesn’t Have to Ignore the Fact That You’re a Mom

I truly believe the most beautiful, aligned, fulfilling businesses are not built in spite of motherhood—but because of it.

Your kids are not your obstacle. They’re your reminder to build differently. Smarter. With heart.

So if you're in a season where you're craving growth but feel stretched thin, know this:
There is nothing wrong with you.

You are not falling behind.

You are simply being called to build around your life, not in denial of it.

Ask Yourself:

What would shift if I fully honored the season I’m in—without guilt?
Let that question guide you this week.

And if you’re ready to stop pretending you don’t have kids when you build your business… you’re in the right place. This podcast and this community were made for you.
