What happens when motherhood inspires a business

entrepreneurship marketing May 29, 2025
You know I love a good story—especially when it starts with a mom who sees a gap in the world and decides to fill it.

This week on This Mother Means Business, I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Traci Channer, the founder and CEO of The Decided Collection—a pajama brand created just for tween girls.

Her story? It started with her daughter. Traci couldn’t find cozy, age-appropriate PJs that her daughter actually liked. So instead of settling, she did what any bold, slightly wild dreamer would do: she created them herself.

We talked about what it was like to walk away from corporate America (without a business plan), how hard it is to truly unwind from hustle culture, and why following your gut is one of the most underrated tools in business.

We also got real about the challenges of starting a product-based business—manufacturing, tariffs, sourcing fabric that feels just right, and building a brand that helps tween girls feel bold, brave, and beautiful just as they are.

And the best part? Her daughter has been involved in every step.

This episode is for you if you’ve ever felt the nudge to build something of your own, if you’re in the messy middle of entrepreneurship, or if you just love cheering on women doing incredible things.
