What getting ghosted by a client taught me
May 10, 2022
I’m going to get a bit vulnerable with you today.
I want to bring you into the depths of my world…
…I talk a lot about things that go well in my business – but we both know things aren’t always going to go well.
Recently, I had a client ghost me.
This client registered for a high-ticket program, on a payment plan – paid the first instalment, attended the first calls, and then disappeared.
Ignored my emails. Blocked me on Facebook and Instagram. The works.
Not a word.
This email isn’t about what I think about ghosting a person. If you know me at all, you know what I think about that…
This email is to share with you how YOU can respond in a similar situation.
Here’s how I responded…
I was initially really disappointed – not because of the money – but because I genuinely want to help. I genuinely believe in what is possible for you, and us together as a team. My heart is true this way.
My husband suggested I never offer payment plans again (that’s not happening, btw – accessibility is too important).
Instead, I started to look for the lesson.
Because well, there’s always a lesson.
The lesson for me was this… I followed up with this client.
Something I used to do, but do very rarely now.
I’ve publicly said I don’t do follow ups. But I broke that rule this time.
The truth is, I did follow up with them. I reached out to them about the offer and told them I thought it would be great for them.
You see, My ideal client doesn’t need me to do this.
My dreamiest client knows she wants to work with me, I don’t need to convince her.
And while my sending a note to a person letting them know I think my new program is great for them is by no means a justification for the why in this situation, the reminder was worth the upset.
So here’s my commitment to you.
If you email me about an offer, or send me a DM… I will tell you about it… and then I will let you stand in your power to determine whether it’s a fit for you and when the time is right.
I trust you to make that decision.
If you’re in a season of your business where you feel like you are forcing it – doing a ton of follow ups, and chasing your leads… check in with how you want your dreamiest client to act. Does she need that level of support?
Maybe she does, but mine certainly does not.
