So…I went viral on Threads and it was awful
Oct 01, 2024So, I did the thing that every online business owner secretly dreams about: I went viral.
On Threads, of all places. And let me tell you…it was kind of awful.
Truthfully, I knew what I posted was going to blow up a little bit, but I didn't really expect it to blow up that much.
Most people agreed with what I posted, but some of the comments? Brutal.
People insulted me, called me an idiot, and even claimed I used the word palpable incorrectly (spoiler: I didn’t).
I’ve always thought that going viral would be exciting, but honestly, it was more dysregulating than anything.
It felt like I had this huge spotlight on me, but not in a fun way.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s kind of cool to finally be able to say, “Yeah, I went viral once,” but guess what?
It didn’t do much for my business at all.
Sure, I gained a bunch of new followers, but none of them turned into clients or sales immediately (which seems to be how we think it should work).
It’s easy to get caught up in chasing likes and views, but that’s not where the real business growth happens.
Instead of obsessing over virality, we should be focusing on what actually moves the needle:
- Building genuine connections with our audience
- Creating valuable content that speaks to our ideal clients
- Engaging consistently (even if it’s with a smaller audience)
- Fostering trust and showing up authentically
Going viral might give you a moment in the spotlight, but it won’t necessarily get you closer to your business goals.
Keep your eyes on the bigger picture: relationships, impact, and long-term growth.
Until then, I'll be over here waiting for this thread to die down... (it still hasn't).
