Just Because You Can, Doesn't Mean You Should
Sep 17, 2024
As entrepreneurs, we often hear phrases like, “You should do this for your business,” or “If you’re not doing X, you’re missing out.”
But let’s take a moment to pause and consider—just because we can do something, or because others say we should, does it actually mean it’s the right move?
I was on a connection call in another community I'm part of and one of the members was discussing how she's thinking about starting a podcast... but is also launching 2 things in the next 3 months and hosting a retreat...AND that she has someone in her ear letting her know that she could launch her podcast and have it up in 2 weeks.
I lovingly interjected and let her know that - just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should... and it's okay to actually *not* have capacity for something you desire at this moment.
The truth is this - not every strategy, tool, or advice fits every business, or business owner.
Every business is different, just like every entrepreneur's vision. While it's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the well-meaning advice out there, you have the power to be selective and intentional.
Here are a few reminders for you today:
- Evaluate Before Acting: Always ask yourself, “Does this align with my vision and goals?” If the answer is no, it’s okay to say no.
- The Power of Focus: You don’t need to do everything. Sometimes, doing less—more effectively—can lead to greater success.
- Trust Your Instincts: You’ve built something incredible. Remember that your gut is often the best guide when navigating your business decisions.
So, the next time someone says you should implement a new strategy, jump on a trend, or try something wayyyyy outside your comfort zone, take a step back and assess what’s truly right for you and your business.
Cheers to intentional growth and making decisions that work for you—not because you can, but because they’re right for your business.
