How many options are there, really?
Aug 09, 2022
I was raised in "hustle" culture.
Every *step* in my life from childhood, my teen years, and into adulthood was setting me up to thrive in the 9-5 grind.
I remember my first internship at a PR agency, I was scolded for leaving work at 5:30pm to catch the train home from Toronto.
Even though my “work hours” were 8:30am – 5:30pm, leaving at 5:30pm was actually frowned upon.
“It just seems like you don’t want to be here…” was what they told me.
At 21, fresh out of school and trying to ‘make it’ in the world I was told was my only option for success…
…I was crushed. So I started staying… until 6pm, 7pm…
The truth is, I didn’t want to be there.
I never wanted to live to work.
I wanted to work, so that I could live.
It took me 8 years of working for other people to figure out there was another way.
I’ve made more in the last 2 months that I did in an entire year at the PR agency.
If you had told 21 year old me, I’d be doing what I do 14 years later… I would not have believed you.
Today – I stop working at 5pm, and most days don’t start until 11am. I generally only work 3 focused days a week.
Here’s the thing - unless you have the pleasure of growing up with entrepreneurial parents, most of us are taught there is only one way to make money.
This is bullsh*t.
There have never been more ways to make money then there are right now.
Even in a recession, even with kids at home, even with all the pressures, and responsibilities that come with adulthood.
So, whatever it is you’re dreaming of – keep taking action towards it.
It’s possible for you.
