How I’m Prepping My Business for Summer (and Giving Myself More Space)

entrepreneurship marketing Jun 16, 2025
Let’s talk about summer.

Not in the “add to cart” kind of way, but in the how do I make this feel good kind of way.

If you're anything like me—and honestly, if you're a mom and a business owner, you probably are—you’re thinking about how to slow down a bit this summer without everything falling apart behind the scenes. And if you're already dreaming about lake days, splash pads, zoo trips (which I personally love, but I know are not for everyone), and unplugged time with your kids, this post is for you.

Because friend, I’m doing everything I can right now to make this summer less chaotic and more joyful.

You Only Get So Many Summers

You’ve probably heard the phrase “You only get 18 summers with your kids.” But I’d argue it’s fewer than that. Because if you’ve got teens—or you’ve seen them in the wild—you know that somewhere around age 13, they no longer want to hang out with you at the splash pad.

So here I am, heading into summer number eight with my daughter and almost-five with my son, and I want to make the most of it.

But let me be super clear—I’m still running my business. I’m not ghosting my clients or disappearing for eight weeks. What I am doing is setting up systems, simplifying offers, and getting really honest with myself about what actually matters so that I can work smarter, not harder.

That One Time I Was Called Lazy for Wanting Time Off

Let’s rewind for a second.

Years ago, I applied to a coaching program I was super excited about—only to find out it ran during July and August. So I emailed the coach (a woman I deeply admired) and asked if I could defer until fall. She never replied… but days later, I watched her Instagram Stories where she ranted about people “taking summers off” and called it lazy.

Yup. That happened. I cried. But honestly? I’m so glad it did. Because it helped me get crystal clear on my values. And one of them? Time off in the summer.

I will never feel guilty again for prioritizing my life. And I hope you won’t either.

What I’m Doing Now to Prep for a Summer That Feels Good

1. Batching the heck out of my podcast

Podcast episodes don’t record themselves. And I’m not planning on touching my mic in July or August. So I’ve been recording all the things since April—solos, interviews, everything. Come summer, Thursdays (usually my podcast days) will be mostly free.
Will I still have a few admin things to approve with my VA? Of course. But it won’t take hours. And then? I get to go outside. Ride my horse. Pull my kids out of camp early. Just play.

2. Defining my bare minimum for content

This is a big one.
I’ve been looking at all the marketing “stuff” I normally do—emails, Instagram, visibility efforts—and deciding what’s essential for summer… and what can wait.
If you see fewer posts from me, that’s why. I’m not ghosting, I’m just living. And I want that for you, too.

3. Simplifying offers + capacity

I’m not launching anything new this summer. The Ambition Mastermind will open again in late August, but that’s a low-lift rollout. No big promo plans, just a casual open for the women who already know it’s the right fit.
In July and August, I’ll only be doing the things that actually move the needle in my business. Nothing extra. Because my focus is my family.

4. Delegating and automating

This is the summer I finally let go of control.
I’ve hired support to clean up my backend systems, lean into automations, and help with all the things I’m not good at—especially tech. (If you know me, you know… tech is not my strong suit.)
But I’m learning to release the reigns a bit more, and it’s honestly been a gift.

The Invitation

So here’s what I want to say to you:

Your business isn’t going anywhere. You can take a week off. Or a whole month. Or an afternoon. You’re allowed to enjoy your life.

And summer is the perfect invitation to do just that.

Whether your dream summer looks like pool days and zoo trips (hi, that’s me) or something totally different, I hope you give yourself the space to make it happen. Even if you’re not in a season where you can take two months off, maybe you can work a little less, say no a little more, and give yourself a little more peace.

You deserve a business that works for your life—not the other way around.

And listen, your girl needs a tan. I need to rest. I want to laugh with my kids, sit by the lake, ride my horse, and eat popsicles without a laptop on my lap. So that’s what I’m building toward.

Let’s high five each other virtually. I’m rooting for your version of a dreamy summer—whatever that looks like.
