Breaking my heart, just a little.
Oct 18, 2022
Earlier this month, I travelled to California for a Mastermind.
If you’ve been reading my emails and any regularity for the last year you’ll know that I’ve travelled a few times already in 2022.
As I was packing, my daughter asked me “Mommy, why are you always leaving?”…
After taking a deep breath and pushing aside the mom guilt, I told her that it’s important for Mommy to chase her dreams, because she has big goals and an impact she wants to leave on the world, and sometimes that means having to go places.
- I want her to see her mom achieving things.
- I want her to know that her mom loved her intensely, and also chased her dreams.
- That I was a great mom, AND…great at a lot of other things too.
- I want to set this example for her, so that when she becomes a mother, she will allow herself to create the life she truly desires.
- To not give up any ounce of herself, in her quest to mother the best way she can, but to find the way she can feel most fulfilled throughout life in all the ways that are available to us.
It doesn’t mean I didn’t cry in the car pulling away from my kids (and all the way to the highway) – their little hands waving in the window as I drove away and knowing that we’d all miss each other quite a lot.
But here’s the thing – this is me being the best mom I can be for them.
Taking the time away to ground, recharge, and focus so I can come back with my cup full so I can love up on them even more.
So maybe one day when my daughter is 35, she’ll say, “I had the best mom, and she was such a badass”
Here’s hoping, anyway!
